Dalton (James) House is built.

It is located near today’s 5 Post Office Square. Built by a sea captain, the house is torn down after the death of Dalton’s son, Peter Roe Dalton, in 1811. It is replaced first by a row of brick houses, then by a granite building known as the Dalton Block, and finally by today’s McCormack Federal Building.
